Teaching Experience

COM/ENG 395 – Rhetoric of Design. Evaluating and critiquing designed objects and places using a combination of literature from the Humanities and Design, parsing out underlying messages in the form.

COM 267 – Writing for electronic media. Project based course on creating written media in a variety of digital contexts, including advertising, news reporting, scriptwriting and online short form writing.

COM 307 – Digital Audio Production. Project based course focusing on both the technical and aesthetic aspects of audio production. Work with Digital Audio Workstation tools, plugins, a variety of different audio formats, including Radio Spots, Music Production and Storytelling.

COM 367: Digital Media and Culture. Project based course covering digital media technologies including Web development, Web-based Video, HTML 5 Animation/Interactive Media, Multiple Branched Digital Storytelling. Reading assignments on Digital Copyright issues, Audience/Social Networking, Demographics, Interaction design, Future of Online Media/Interaction

Game Design Workshop (2019 – 2021) – One-day workshops for high school students where they make a computer-based game. Its approach is specifically low-tech, focused less on technology and more focused on solid play mechanics, storyline and character by using a design-thinking based approach. In the summer of 2020 the workshop was redesigned to be taught entirely online.

Design Camp (2009 – 2021). Design Camp is summer education program sponsored by NC State’s College of Design. It is a one-week experience offered three times during the summer, for high school students. The students are exposed to different design disciplines. I have taught the Art+Design portion of the week. Teams of two students create 60 – 90 second stop motion animations with sound in a day using a variety of materials – clay, paper and found objects.

Photography Workshop (2013). A one-day workshop that I taught twice for the NC Contemporary Art Museum. It was oriented towards middle school and early high school students. The primary focus was to learn the basics of image composition while observing the environment around us.
